Patients in the 5 percent Medicare sample, surviving all of 2004 with Medicare as primary payor & with a CKD diagnosis from claims in 2004 &/or 2005. Dually-enrolled patients also enrolled in Medicaid for the entire 2005 follow-up. Costs for 2005; populations & costs multiplied by 20 for estimate. Patients censored at development of ESRD.
