CPM DATA PRODUCTS

CPM is a CMS project developed to collect information on the quality of care provided to the ESRD dialysis patient. The data originates from surveys completed by the patients’ primary care facilities, which have been collected on a yearly basis, resulting in a rich source of detailed information useful in the analysis of health care delivery to the dialysis patient.

The Coordinating Center will make the CPM data available as USRDS Standard Analysis Files (SAF). The data from each yearly collection is linked to the USRDS patient database and processed into a standard data format. A complete claims history is produced by merging the CPM cohort with every file in the CORE CD, Transplant CD, Hospital CD, DMMS claims CD, and Case Mix Adequacy claims CD from the USRDS SAFs. In addition, the merged Institutional claims and Physician/supplier claims are included. The CPM 2001 SAF CD set will be released as the base edition of the CPM collection. Subsequent years will be released annually as updates to the base edition and should lag the release of the USRDS SAFs by approximately 18 months due to data availability.

The CPM 2001 SAF CD set includes CPM data collections from 1994 through the year 2000 survey with a claims history from the USRDS 2001 SAF CDs. In addition, Institutional claims from years pre-1989 to 1999 and Physician/supplier claims from years 1991 to 1999 are included for the entire CPM cohort. The resulting collection represents a complete mini-set of the USRDS data products with supporting files along with the CPM SAFs. The CPM SAFs are available separately for those who only want the CPM survey data or who may already possess relevant USRDS SAF products.

The CPM 2008 SAF CD set includes CPM data for the year 2007 survey with an updated claims history from the USRDS 2008 SAF CDs for the cumulative CPM cohort (1994-2007). The Institutional and Physician/supplier claims from 2006 are included for the cumulative CPM cohort. The Institutional claims from years pre-1989 to 2005 and Physician/supplier claims from years 1991 to 2005 are also included for the patients new in the CPM 2007 survey. This update set, which will be available when the 2009 USRDS SAF's are available, can be combined with the 2001 base edition & other annual updates for a comprehensive collection.
