The Comprehensive Dialysis Study is an updated Special Study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In the spirit of the Dialysis Morbidity and Mortality Waves, the CDS will carve out a nationally representative cohort of incident hemo- and peritoneal dialysis patients, and collect clinical information above and beyond that available from the Medical Evidence Form and other standard USRDS files. Approximately 3000 subjects will be selected for an evaluation of self-reported health status and physical function. Of the 3000 subjects, approximately 900 will be selected for additional studies of self-reported dietary intake and serial laboratory determinations. The study will be conducted cooperatively by Investigators at the USRDS Coordinating Center (University of Minnesota), Emory University and the University of California (San Francisco and Davis). For questions, please contact the Coordinating Center, or the lead investigators, Dr. Nancy Kutner (nkutner@emory.edu) and Dr. Glenn Chertow (chertowg@medicine.ucsf.edu).
